Goodbye, Cruzbike Kit (sniffle, sniffle)

March 21, 2014/ Jim Parker

In the beginning, Cruzbike WAS the kit… and the KIT was Cruzbike.

My first recumbent was a Cruzbike kit paired with a $130 Walmart “Mongoose” mountain bike. I rode that bike more than any other bike, up to that time, in my life.

Here I am in September 2005, chubbier than now and clueless that someday
I would hold course records in long-distance cycling event. This is
the bike that Maria, after initially scoffing at my FWD Frankenstein,
climbed on and I couldn’t get her off of it. I call it my $100,000 bicycle
because we loved the bike so much we decided to go into business
with the creator of the Kit, John Tolhurst.

As they say, the rest is history.

Fast forward nine years and Cruzbike offers four models of bicycles that are being ridden all over the world. Tolhurst’s designs, which originally some may have thought were a flash-in-the-pan novelty have proven they can compete with the best bikes in the world in the world’s toughest races. The doubters have been silenced.

The CB-kit offered a relatively inexpensive way for tinkerers to put their toe in the recumbent world and see if they liked it.

Now that there is a plethora of real world experience for people to read about with our complete bike models, sales of the Kit have trailed off. While any business-person hates to see sales fall, in this case, it’s a good thing. The flip-side of this coin is that we have trouble keeping our top-of-the-line bikes in stock

We have a small supply of CB-kits left. If you want to stock away one (or a few) for future projects, now is the time to get your order in. You have been warned.

It will be a sad day when the last kit has left the warehouse, but it’s all part of Cruzbike growing up.
