I had six people yesterday tell me I had a great looking bike. I luv it. (I actually luv it because it rides as good as it looks).

Just wondering if the t50 is going to be around at Sebring?

If I offer my bike for anyone to ride most say no as it looks too outside their comprehension but the t50 has got to be the incubator engine for Cruzbike.

Is it going to happen this year for Cruzbike ???

I've been wondering if the t50 will come to market at all. Would like to get to work on building one up.

Manufacturing sample was at the show; that's several steps past prototype. Last word was spring or summer, it's still winter. So don't waste time wondering :)

One hang up on the T50 I can see based on the frame set only option is its marketed to entry level riders. Entry level riders don't have much knowledge of the component world or the skill to strip a bike to build up a new frame set. Sure most would buy the bike and have their shop build it up for them but that still brings more questions to the table of what to selected based of your shops suggestions. I think the T50 really needs to be offered as a frameset but also as a $1000 entry level complete build with cheaper components. A brand new rider looking at entry level will pick a ready to go bike 9 times out of 10 because they have no knowledge in the field.

How many people build their own entry level desktop computers?

Years ago I installed Linux on a Thinkpad, and then got new memory chips for it, and then got a new CPU for it.

I had a worse time getting my entry-level Cruzbike conversion-kit to work. I then had even more trouble getting my Silvio frame set to work. I would have been better off getting a complete Silvio and changing the components at my leisure. Sell complete bikes as well as frame sets.

I think entry level is probably not the right term. Maybe entry level to the world of MBB bikes, yes. I think the frameset option will always appeal to the aging wedgie rider that wants to give "this thing" a try without breaking the bank. Also, guys that are riding other recumbents and getting tired of getting toasted by Cruzbikes... That question always lingers, "Can I ride "that thing"?"

I wasn't an entry level rider when I entered the world of Cruzbike. I had been around the block a few times. Being a budget minded person and having kids that outgrew their bikes quickly, I learned early on how to do my own bicycle repairs and how to switch components from frame to frame, then dial them in. When I got interested in Cruzbike, which at the time was still a relative unknown in the recumbent world, I was smitten by the Silvio. At the time, it was only offered as a frameset and I would have never popped for that much money on something I couldn't try, let alone know if I could ride it. I totally balked on the frameset and certainly would not have bought a complete bike, sight unseen and without so much as trying it. For me, at the time, the conversion kit made so much sense. If I could master the conversion and liked it, I would then and only then, get a Silvio.

It was fun tinkering with the conversion kit back in the day. I believe there was one thread where we referred to the kit as an adult erector set. Sourcing out my first frame was an adventure. We experimented with frames, tinkered with adjustments, seat back angles, seat pan angles..... It was an absolute ball. Go back and read some of the old archives on the kits, we had some fun and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Taking a box full of parts and assembling it into something I rode a lot of miles on was priceless.

My first Silvio was just as much fun to build. We didn't have as many people doing assembly instructions and videos and such. We had some vague directions, a few pictures and we survived. Assembling the frame and the front end section took a little head scratching, but it was fun! Then came the experimentation with handlebars and all manner of fun stuff. My second Silvio was a slam dunk. I had it together in an evening. Then, I offered to help Tom Roberts assemble his Silvio and that ended up being an all day nightmare, but still fun.

In short, yes, I'd always want the frameset option. It won't appeal to allI took a look at the new Silvio and they spec it out at $4100. I priced out parts and figure I could save $500, or so, doing it myself and have the fun of doing it. That was buying all brand new parts. Being the cheap person I am, I would scrounge around and put together a group from other peoples' cast-offs. Also, there is value to knowing how the thing is built and how to fix it in a pinch alongside the road.

The last time I looked into building a computer, I didn't think it penciled out. Mind you, I've never built one, but I wouldn't shy away from it if I thought it made sense. By the time you buy the software, it always seemed to me to be cheaper to buy a computer, plug it in and go. But that's just me.

Now an entry level rider, looking to get into recumbents with absolutely no idea what he or she is doing? Yes, they would probably want a complete bike, but I doubt they would buy a bike they couldn't look at or try. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, it's never black or white.

Depends on what you're looking for, just like building up a bike. When my son was about to turn 15, he needed a new computer, and wanted a gaming rig. So I gave him a budget, had him spec out the parts and check for compatibility, and stood over his shoulder while he put it together. (And when it wouldn't power up, we both learned about breadboarding. ) Ended up being a lot of fun for both of us, and a real confidence-builder for him.

Exactly what I was getting at.. It's never black and white. For me, building a computer just didn't make sense. But a bike? That's another story!

If I recall correctly the T 50 is indeed only going to be a frame set. it is targeted to fill the void left by the removal of the conversion kit basically the same audience without any of the headaches related to geometry. It is a supremely flexible platform that will allow people to build a vast variety of entry level recomments configured for all sorts of different things including road, trail, and mini fat. Direct result of market feedback

If I didn't already have a Sofrider, I might be in the market for a utilitarian bike and a loaner for people that want to try. Being the hoarder that I am.... I want one just because!

Off the long run
Had I not purchased a V2k frameset when the ludicrous sale was on, I would probably still be on a DF. However, it allowed me to spec it how I wanted, as a commuter with an 8-sp IGH from Sturmey-Archer and a hub dynamo. The things it really needed, and which I had to kind of bodge were rack at the back and mudguard attachment on the front wheel.
After that I've messed around with seat angle and probably have space for a little more before I start clipping the top of the steering tube; I think the T50 allows this at least.
An underseat rack from Terra-cycle would be a very handy thing, and if anyone's budget for a banana bag is limited, go looking for Hamster Bags for kids' buggies. Similar thing, not the same price.
For those who cannot afford a Silvio, will the T50 be fast enough or will it need serios modding to go well?

Well oddly enough whilst looking outside at the rain thinking... Well perhaps it wasn't such a bad idea to skip on the racing today I saw another gadget it the bike porn mag. This one is only 300€ so it looks like a bargain but I can't find much about it. The only issue would be that it extends the pedals out a bit so ideally you would have to shift the cleats over. It looks like a cheap power meter for the medium to lighter rider.

Dave this looks like a Limits power meter that have had very poor press due to failures and very poor accuracy, and a lot of lying about release dates.

I wonder if the T-50 went down the memory hole... Haven't heard anything more about it. If it does come out, I want one...
