3hr 55 min 29 sec. 170.5 klm (106 miles) avg speed 43.5 klm/hr 27 mph ride on strava

Intended to run through to four hours but three triathletes decided to take inside three abreast.........yeah that is what I said after passing them four times.

Lots of loops don't want to repeat anytime soon. A bit numbing

Ran open rear triangle .

Next 80klm tt kom on road.

So the addition to the wheels added 3.5 to 4 klm per hour

Wondering if the rear triangle infill would add much but likely won't bother at this stage.

Only used one bidon too with no calorie intake but I did get hungry in the last hour

Likely I would have bonked in another half hour. I had good conditions lucky me.
Excellent ride Jond!!!
What was your average watts at the front wheel?

258 till battery fail at 160 klm

Interesting at 200 watts I could avg 39 klm/ hr. Towards end ride wind gentle 15 klm started up and wooo the bike gets blown around. So expressway tt will have to be perfect day.

I'm on a ban so stuck with 2012 G3 power meters. Been reliable but surpassed now.

Not sure I will take the speed thing much further.

What do you think my chances are of getting a fat bike .. I now live on a sandy peninsula with the koalas.

Here is a cheap $300 AU fat bike that should fit you!!!

Or for an extra $100 you could buy this, and tell the Chief Financial Controller (CFC) that riding this will keep the Great "Aussie Aero Belly" from forming, now that you are an ancient 55+ year OLD!!

Got the fat bike. 4.8" tyres. It is a bulldozing tractor. Seat is all wrong but snow/ sand is limited niche and trikes more limited at this stage. Trek specialised etc not importing anymore so ended up with carbon Apollo. No need for aero discs as it is 13.5 kegs.

Soft sand is doable. And no need to pick any line. Right up there with my skill

Next 80 klm tt smash waiting for nil wind.

13.5 kegs of beer is a HUGE weight!!! at 162.3 Lbs * 13.5 = 2,192 lbs!!!

How do you pick up the bike if it falls over!

This would be better AND cheaper option($1850 us + shipping to AU) than an Azub, which has no contact details on their web site, or weight of trike!
TWO rear 26"*4.0" wheels driving IN the track of the front wheel, will go through softer sand than ONE rear 26'*4.8"wheel driving in fresh sand, but it weighs 33.5 kg and non folding!

OR this $1625 US option with 3 * 26" *4.0" tyres that folds, and weights 23.5 kg

OR this $4900 ICE option with 3 * 26" *4.0" tyres that folds, and weights 22.3 kg, and has rear suspension

Slim put forty hours in on fatbike now.

Think often about a recumbent fat. Saddles just don't cut it after all the bent miles.

But a trike is not suitable for my off-road situation due to having to lift over gates etc.

The Quad weighed 33 Kg so definitely not good for lifting over a gate!!! OK for me!

Yeah my fat bike is 13 . 4 kg and I find that a struggle.

Hence the tubeless hopes. The tyres are snowshoe xl 4.8 " anything less and I would sink in the sand.

Mate I've not seen that one before. Looks heavyish. After an exhaustive trial I use a selle smp lite in leather. For long days in the saddle. Not that it happens these days;)
If the discomfort persists, try a suspension seatpost. I put one on my fat bike last winter and it made enough of a difference that it extended my rides about 50% before experiencing the same level of discomfort as the stock seatpost. It was also very cheap, about 25 Canadian dollars. There isn't much else one can do to alleviate pain from a fat bike, being an upright, and those fat tires contrary to all appearances do not make for a comfy ride with all that bouncing around, especially on harder surfaces. It's the most uncomfortable bike I ever rode.

Hi apollo.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah I checked out the various seat post suspension and the thudbuster short looks pretty good. So it's on order. I just got a bluto suspension fork. Sitting on saddle just can't compare to any of my four bents for comfort safety fun. Terrible having to wear nappies again. And the float of 4.8" tyres at 6psi is not comfortable you are right. But they do smooth out the ride but offer nil damping. Washboards don't exist and fist size rocks too. Hoping the bluto will help transform the ride. Supposedly it does. the fat bike is slow so impacts are generally ok. My loop is over two hours on hard pack to soft sand. 42 klm. But I enjoy it more than trainer for sure.

Sadly if I want to ride locally in safety it has to be off road apart from early Sunday mornings but then it's miss church.......... again........things we do eh ;)
