WTB Silvio 1.5

Anybody planning to upgrade soon. I tried a Silvio 2.0 but didn't like the laid 27 degree for in town traffic reasons. I am thinking the 45 degree would suit me more plus hoping to run across a good deal.

I rode a Silvio 1.5 for almost two years. Sold it three months ago when I got the S30. Maria Parker set a 12-hour distance record in 2009 on an early-model Silvio, so they can be fast.

I doubt you'll like a 1.5 any better than you did the 2.0 you owned for two weeks. It should fit your x-seam (45", IIRC), but your BB will be low unless you can get hold of a chainstay extender. The low BB may give you problems with the edge of the seat where it hits your legs, as well as being less aero. The top of the seat back might be uncomfortable between your shoulders, since you're fairly tall. Recumbutt is also a possibility with the more-upright seat angle.

You might do better with a QX100 or a used Quest 559 for now. The seat angle is adjustable, from 45 degrees or so down to about 35 degrees, and you can move the seat pan back a little to help get your feet higher. At least one person here here has modified his to be very similar to the Silvio 1.0.

Huh. I would have guessed exactly the opposite as your first part. :)

I've ridden my Sofrider and Mantis with angles between 50 to around 35. I would have thought that an original angle Silvio would a great idea. (But I've never ridden an original Silvio and only ridden a modern Silvio in a parking lot).

I do agree that an extender might be a very good idea (particularly if the seat pan is hitting your legs badly) and I definitely find that recumbutt gets better with lower seat angle.

I have a 1.0 and have never had an issue with the edge of the seat or Recumbutt even when riding a century. However, we are all built differently. I am 6'2" with a 45.5" x-seam.

I am 6'1" with a 46.5" x-seam, and the 100 mm chainstay extension was a godsend to my (chicken, but now Wigo) thighs pressing into the front of the seat.
