Going Fast - or Just Going Easy

There is no secret to going fast, or making long distances easily. You need good ergonomics – a structure that you can really pull on to develop more power, you need efficiency – a structure that does not waste your power; and you need to be able to hold an aerodynamic position. None of that presents any problem on the Cruzbike.

FITNESS

Using more muscles

is more healthy

and more fun.

Ergonomics – Giving your all!

Ergonomics is about preventing wasted physical and mental effort. The Cruzbike lets you use a wide range of muscle groups, as with a standard bike, something other recumbents don't allow. On a standard bike, you can and do use your arms. This is possible because you pull on the handlebars at right angles to the steering tube. Only in extreme cases, like the dash to the finishing line, does the pull on the handlebars make the bike wobble. Effectively then, on both a standard bike and on the Cruzbike, the frame including the handlebars is solid enough to hang onto and dig in. And as you do, you benefit by:

  • Building bone density throughout the whole body;
  • Achieving a low-impact workout;

  • Getting upper body resistance training;
  • Developing leg and upper body strength, including various muscle groups such as the lower arms, upper arms, shoulders, pecs, abs, back, as well as development of the leg muscles; and
  • Producing more power of course!

As with walking, running or riding a standard bike, there is a natural bodily rhythm to riding a Cruzbike. Movement of the bottom bracket introduces slight variety into the joint movement and so protects against knee injury and knee pain. Unnecessary effort and pain is something you can leave to folk on other bikes.

FUN

more of your energy –

go further, faster.

Efficiency - Taking your all!

If nothing else, cycling is about efficiency, about multiplying your human abilities. The main reason the Cruzbike is so efficient is the stiffness of the front frame. The Cruzbike frame has exceptional stiffness for a recumbent because the drive structure is formed as a tetrahedron, just like the rear section of a standard bike. You could match this stiffness with a boom, but the result will either be much heavier or much more expensive.

The seat also has an important role to play. Unlike the usual recumbent 'deck chair' seat, which can have a spongy feel, the Cruzbike has a hard shell seat sculptured to support the lower back and to give the upper back (but not the shoulder blades) a good firm support to work against.

In our estimate, the Cruzbike is 5% to 10% more efficient for these reasons than many other recumbents. At 20 mph, this translates to an increase in speed of one to two mph.

& REWARD

Enjoy the ride,

be refreshed

when you arrive.

Aerodynamics – ducking the problem :)

Like all recumbents, the wind resistance felt by the rider of a Cruzbike is similar to that felt by a road bike rider who is crouched low down on the handlebars.

So consider: you can pedal to your full ability while minimizing undue stresses on your body; you have a frame which translates your full effort into power on the road; and you have a riding position which automatically reduces your wind resistance to that of a hunched over rider.

Your reward is a form of recreation or transport that will take you further for more fun and with less effort and that will support and develop your strength and fitness with reduced risk of injury.
